The main problem however is HMG who have walked us into a system whereby the EU controls many asoects of legislation.

But its still our Westminster government who has decided to hammer us with high fuel taxes. Elsewhere in the EU fuel taxes are much lower. Maybe I won't bother coming back from Spain.

so true but it seems you Brits keep on insisting its fault of the EU
second expensive country in EU is Italy at 1.20 per litre but even 1.15 cent of a EU is possible
other countries have fuel at 90 cents of a EU
average in EU is about 1 EURO per litre

Re: So, now fuel is over £1 per ltr. on the forecourt
Gludy ! I have only been posting on here a short time I know, but I have been observing this forum for a few years and I cant help but notice thet your glass is allways half empty, never half full.
We all know fuel prices are set to go sky high, but all the doom & gloom in the world won't change the inevitable.
Do you think we should all give up boating, get rowing boats or go sailing ? I AM NOT HERE FOR A LONG TIME, I'M HERE FOR A GOOD TIME !

Indeed
Im just happy to be running 100% bio in the car, made from "reclaimed" veg oil. If red goes up much more it will be in the boat as well.

Don't know what the farmers are on about, unless they are including previous/future increases or the rise in the oil price?

I am not always half full - as a person I am usually very optimistic.
A few years back I thought the campaign on the red issue would be lost and I said so and was correct. Seeing the world for what it is and trying to fight to stop damage is not being a pessimist … its being a realist.
I have friends who are having to give up boating because of the red issue and I have just spoken to a friend today who has no choice but to sell his boat and go displacement. Knowing what is coming means these people and others can plan.
Most of my main debates on the forum have been about technical issues such as hulls shapes, of water jets etc. These subjects are not pessimistic or optimistic.
Besides putting up a fight to get my money back on a £1m boat falling apart – which again is neither optimistic or pessimistic – just a fight, I can only think of the red issue and its effects on the market that could have realism seen as pessimism – I would like you to mention another subject where I have been pessimistic?

Sometimes with a fight things can be changed and in any event its imoportant to know what is coming so you can plan better instead of being caught out.

Not at all - I think we should see what is coming and adust our boating taking regard of our own personal circumstances.
Maybe I do not like hiding my head in the sand

So that HMG gets its slice twice, once in duty and once from its bit of increased standing and operating charges passed to customers. Not your fault, but the cynicism of the revenue harvesters irritates me.Two beers please, my friend is paying.
