We are going to hell in a hand cart, if the Coast Guard are not worth an above inflation pay rise, along with the police, i dont know who are!! certainly not MP's..
Could do with few more quid meself,so possibly could the armed forces , all nurses, people who work in nursing homes, just about all farmworkers in fact most people who do the sort of low paid work, that the rest of us would not do because of the money?
They're not asking for the earth, just to be brought in line with others with similar responsibility and qualifications.
There's something a bit amiss if they could earn more by chucking it in and applying for a job serving McFlurry's.
How many of the services you mention need a pay rise to bring them in line with the minimum wage??
Two out of the four(careworkers and farmworkers) and while on the subject and as you are in a generous mood, they would probably rather fancy the job security/holidays/ sickness and pension schemes of the coasties as well.
This has all been done over before HERE at some length.
Just because the coasties have something to do with our hobby does not negate the fact that there are many other even less well rewarded jobs out there that deserve better treatment.
So you are saying two out of the 4 services in your post are below the minimum wage? and they have no job security and the basic's that all employed (not contract) government employees receive?
If that is the case I am staggered, as I know people that work in all of those services, 1 in Iraq as we speak and none have mentioned they are below the min wage and need a pay rise...
Not sure how many careworkers and farmhands are in Iraq at the moment, but feel sure you can enlighten us?
>there are many other even less well rewarded jobs out there that deserve better treatment.
Fine, if true, then bring them in line with the minimum wage too. Coasties First!
I was talking about a Nurse, who chose to go, however as you are "The peoples poet" I will leave that one to you....
If you read some of the posts in the link to previous thread it does hint that the coastguard employees on the grades involved have not unsuprisingly come up with perhaps ,some would call it spin, designed to garner support and judging from the reactions here, been very successful.
Well done to them, shame some other groups do not have a very organised union to speak up for them.
