Default Race boat from early 60\'s

I know where there is a racing boat from the early 60's, it was well known, and so was the owner/driver.
My dilemma is do I buy it and do it up back to original?
    Would it be financially viable?
I know where the old owners offspring live (sponsors maybe?)
I could have some great fun going to powerboat rallies etc. but it would take a lot of time and money to get it back to its original condition, or would I be better to give/sell the details to someone with more money/better skills than me for them to do it up?

Probably a resounding "NO" ... but could give great satisfaction and joy!!!

I've stopped drinking water .... I have seen what it does to the bottom of our boat!

I do not like the idea of selling the details at all.

If you can afford to buy it and do it up then do so.

If not, then post details of the boat and give someone else with a genuine interest and finances the chance to do so.

Any deal/commission that you might have with the present owner is your business. I personally do not like to be sold information.

The National Motorboat Museum at Wat Tyler Park Basildon essex may be able to give some guidance.

    Rich

Whether you decide to tackle this yourself or pass it on you should definitely talk to the chaps at The Classic Offshore Powerboat Owners Club loads of enthusiastic knowledge and help available. I am a member and if you want to PM me I'd be happy to try and help, I understand your reticence and mum's the word. We have several members currently restoring boats such as Thunderbolt .

These old boats are starting to be rescued and put back together, as they deserve, and hopefully we can start to race them again - look how well supported the classic class is in the Round Britain.

Depends what you mean by financially viable, if you pay a boat yard to rebuild her, then try to sell and recover your cost then no.

If you do the work yourself, you might get the materials cost back and write off the labour.

Let us know what she is!
