Am looking at the CP180i and VHF GX1500E DSC VHF - total for the 2 is £391.80 inc VAT.
This looks to be an awful lot of kit for the money - I remember when A DSC would have been this much on it's own!
So - question is - I realise this stuff isn't absolute top drawer stuff, but given we rarely go much further than round the odd headland - I get the feeling it will do far more than we ever need it to. I've only ever had a little hand-held GPS before so a proper plotter will be a delight.
Thanks and all opinions welcome - good and bad

Re: Standard Horizon Plotter & VHF
I had a SH chartplotter on my last boat. It was an excellent bit of kit and would happily have one again. You can't go wrong for that money.

Re: Standard Horizon Plotter & VHF
Only hd experience of their HH VHFs which I sell excellent value and reliable.
I like the look of their plotters too. Is the price you have been quoted for both a new price? and how big is the screen on the plotter?

Re: Standard Horizon Plotter & VHF
Yup - Brand new for both from a UK dealer (found it on the web doing a search for the CP180i) - it's cheaper than one on eBay!
5" screen - they do a 7" widescreen too, the CP300 - but I can't justify the extra cost to be honest. Why can't we work 2 days a week and boat the other 5????

Re: Standard Horizon Plotter & VHF
SH have good after sales service. I had a CP1000 (10") after a season it had some damp inside. As it has a 3 year warranty they took it back updated the software and resealed it. However it got damp again. So they said “we are not having that, will your helm fit a CP500? (12") They sent me a brand new (just on the market) CP 500.
I liked the fact I got straight through to a real person who was genuinely concerned about my problem.
As for the plotter features its great. Would definitely consider other SH kit.

CP180 won the "best budget buy" prize in a relatively recent comparative test.

Another vote for the cp180i (no experience with the gx1500 vhf).
