Default Holman & Pye Strider 36 built by Anstey Yachts?

Hi there, this is my first post here!

I'm considering of buying a Strider 36, but have had hard time finding information of the boat. The boat in question is located pretty far away and I'm trying to decide whether to pay it a visit or not.

So, any info would be appreciated, for example

    - sailing characteristics
    - sail area
    - mast height
    - general history of the design
    - pictures
    - etc.

    Thanks in advance!

    Regards, Timo

The Strider 36 was Holman and Pye's 77th design, from 1966. It was Holman's idea of a one-ton cup racer, although it was more 'in the style of' than an out-and-out contender. Nine were built in GRP, then later the same year, design number 78 tweaked the lines to be built in wood by Tucker Brown, Holman's favourite builder. Brown's yard built two. Hope this helps.

Sailorman and grumpydog, thanks, sure this information helps. According to the seller's information, the boat has been built in 1973, so it must be of some later batch of boats. Or perhaps the moulds have been passed on to another builder?

    Welcome to the forum!

Got the sailing bug on a Strider 36 in Antigua around 1974. Holman and Pye well respected and you should be able to get more info from the design office which is still operating. Built in what was I think the old Wilts and Dorset bus station in the middle of Poole. Anstey built a number of H&P designs including Rustlers before moving onto C&C designs under the Trapper name.

If you are looking for a "traditional" solid cruiser racer of that era then worth a look.
