Not that I would be over keen to join a club that would actually accept me as a member I was wondering whether there would be any benefits of trying to join one in the Solent Area ?
I notice that the guides seem to mention some suberbly located ones which offer reciprical arrangements to visiting members of other clubs.
Any possibilities for oiks like me as it may provide good grub and overnight moorings as well as running courses etc etc..... ?
Nick

Depends which Club Nick. For someone of your social standing I think the Royal Yacht Squadron would be the most appropriate.

Re: Do they let people like me join Yacht Clubs?
Yeah, why not. I was launching my speed boat on the slip way one morning and a friend of mine with a yacht asked if I would like to join the yacht club? My immediate response was something like "would they let a paaah boat owner in the yacht club?". Lo & behold they did and 3 years on, I'm now on the committee and there are now 26 of us Paaah boaters in Madoc Yacht Club.
Nice club, great club house and good facilities - which include a beer garden - don't forget the beer garden in your rationale of choosing which club to join!!
We're all water sportsmen at the end of the day.

Re: Do they let people like me join Yacht Clubs?
The most worthwhile and practical advantage of being a member of a respected club is the reciprocal arrangements offered in most other ports. You, like me, live too far from the coast to use the club as your local and probably want to be at sea anyway, so it's your out-of-port perks that count the most.
In this respect it is therefore a benefit to join a club as far away as possible, on the basis that West Wales, The Highlands, etc. will have a lower subscription rate which will also be lower still because you will be a "Country Member" as London Clubs say, I'm not sure of the nautical equivalent.
They may also be less discerning in their membership qualifications on the basis that they can have your money without seeing you too often!
