Why would you, you're on a lake. No ports, no chance of "going foreign" no possiblity of meeting foreign ships - you have no need for any ensign. Plus you are under 7m anyway. Yet you persist in reading & commenting on this thread. How strange.

I cannot believe that a man who has a blue ensign (albeit with bits of it upside down) can possibly say that ensign etiquette is not of supreme importance on what is after all England's largest puddle.

The one ensign often seen which I think is not legal is the St Piran Cross with a Union Flag in the top quarter...

Like the Scottish Merchant Flag, it would only be illegal if it was (a) a UK ensign or (b) other "distinctive national colours".

Don't be silly! The present government is much more likely to tax the oicks with red ensigns 'cos there are more of them and they are oicks. They'll probably pay the Scots to wear the saltire in a new attempt for them to be bought and sold for English gold.

The Act of Union came about because Scotland was broke. They had invested vast sums in trying to establish a colony in the American Ithsmus and it failed catastrophically taking much of Scotland's exchequer with it. The English bailed them out with the proviso that they became part of the "United Kingdom".
