Once again I reiterate " it is not the content it is the fact I was not asked " like the PP statement says it will.

Content secure - my ar se , a few months after the last census ( that was also said to only be used for "research etc by the goverment AND NOT TO BE PUT IN THE COMMERCIAL DOMAIN" details that ONLY were on the census form appeared in direct advertising sent to my home address.
call it paranoia if you like ( David ) but that is a fact.

I understand I just want to reassure people that Chelsea will use what ever data they receive (and I dont know what that is in its entirety) will handle it according to the Data Protection Act.

They are a small but specialist and well respected organisation and I have no reason to believe otherwise.

The fact that all the staff are still there is credit to the organisation.

Whether you use their forum or ours is your choice as you will still retain you full log in details to ybw.com and in fairness unless you read this thread you will probably not notice any difference apart from this area (Classics) of the forum closing down.

I hope this helps and I understand Chelsea are posting on here (unbeknown to me!) and I am sure they will answer any questions you may have and have offered and email address to do so.

Cheers I am off on hols now...

Classic Boat Magazines, its name, trademark, staff, forum etc has been sold to Chelsea publishing.

You details are safe and remain safe, as you are a user of the Classic Boat Forum the content which will probably include posts by you (as a user)will be passed over to Chelsea who by law are required to use your data according to the Data Protection act.

If you do not want this to happen simply state here or email the editor (Natalie) and we will remove your details from the list.

Data is a prickly issue due to the fact that many companies to not treat it with respect or according to the law, we do and I can assure you it is safe.

Your will be able to use this forum as if nothing has happened and I can only assume that you will have to once more register for their forum to gain access should you wish.

Any emails you may and I say may receive from them can simply be un subscribed from according to the data protection act.
when are we going to be sent notice of the event .and when do we get to consent or not?

    1. You admit is a 'prickly' issue

    2. You admit many companies do not treat it with respect or according to the law. YET:

    3. You assure me it is safe.

With respect, how can you possibly give any assurance, about anything?

What are your extraordinary powers of control over my data? You could be made redundant this time next month.

Then, what value the assurance of Richard Shead?

IPC Media sold the magazine Classic Boat and the associated Classic Boat website and forum content to Chelsea Publishing late last year. Chelsea Publishing now own all Classic Boat trademarks, content and associated data including forum names and email addresses of people who have posted to the Classic Boat forum. As a condition of the sale, Chelsea are warranted to maintain all the data protection clauses and rights of the data they acquired from the sale to the same degree as that which applied to IPC when they were the owner.

The Classic Boat forum and historical content will hopefully move over to Chelsea at the end of this week. When this is completed, ybw.com will be launching a separate, new forum area dedicated to enthusiasts of classic craft which will be entirely independent to the existing Classic Boat Forum as owned by Chelsea Publishing and hosted on their site.

Rest assured you will retain your membership of all the ybw.com forums and your log-in details, password etc will remain unchanged.
    Richard;

I am very concerned about this.

IPC do not hold a licence underwhich they can sell to a third party the IP of their contributors.

The licence terms that they hold are very clear in the terms of service, and this certainly does not extend to a syndication of this material..

IPC hold this material by way of licence, they are not copyright holders and as such they have no right to pass on to third parties this material for those third parties use.

IPC is not the owner of the material submitted by contributors to this forum.

Additional copies of this material that Chelsea publishing will place onto their website are defacto infringing copies of the original content, and IPC as providers of said for purposes of their business are committing a secondary breach of the relevent legislation and as such a criminal act.

If Chelsea publishing puts into circulation additional copies of these posts, then they are committing both primary and secondary breaches, unless they have secured a licence with each contributor in advance of publication.

We as a company have entered into many agreements for IPC to use our material by way of licence.. so IPC is well aware of the limitations of the licences that they hold and the implications.

The data protection thing is a side bar. IPC's apparent significant breach of its own licence terms, and there odvious and significant breaches of the 1988 copyright legislation, extending to significant secondary breaches.... is a far more serious issue.

I do not think that the individuals who have put significant time and thought into providing to these forums often valuable and helpfull information meant to provide IPC with a new syndication opportunity.

This is in reality either a monumental cock-up which has serious implications for forum and the goodwill of its posters, or is a classical "Copyright Grab"
