We visited Samos marina a fair bit in 2008 and found it to be a delight. We have had a reasonable quote from them for 2011/12. Does anyone have more recent experience of staying long term there?
Tiercel is currently in the yard at Leros Marina in Lakki. We were contemplating heading for the Ionian in the autumn. However we now fancy spending our limited time on Tiercel sailing the Eastern Sporades again and Samos is an obvious choice of base
Any comments or opinions on Samos marina would be appreciated.

I've had good reports about Samos marina, but chandlery stock has been criticised as "light". However, delivery of goods ordered by catalogue from Athens is efficient. Layup ashore or afloat. Pithagorion is quite a bit bigger than Leros, so rather more fun.

we were in Pithagorion in October 2011 and looking for a winter berth. Samos marina's quote was around 2500€ for 6 months compared to Alanya's 1800€ (can't find paper it was written now) but we were told it was cheaper for 7 months! We also tried Mitilini but that was 2700€ for 6 months. We met someone in the police station who had a business in Samos marina and they were complaining of the high berthing costs keeping people away and therefore less work for them.

The chandlery is now closed and it looks like the stock has been moved to the supermarket. The main town of Vathi is not far away and has good chandlers. For our 30 foot boat 2 years ago it was 20 euros a night. Last June it had gone up to 30 euros but went back in July and it had gone down to 22 euros. It seems the high increase had chased custom away. Have found getting a price on the spot elicits a better quote. It really is our favourite Island and Mamas cooking in the Marina Taverna is worth going there alone.
Spent a very happy visit with Bob & Gina off Tiercel.

We have been in there twice in 2009 and 2010 and it's a pleasant marina to spend a few days in Samos. We had a good look around with a view to using the boatyard for the winter but we thought that the security in the boatyard was really non-existent. There were barriers at the entrance from the road, but they were open and unmanned and the pathway from Pythagorian was open to anyone on foot. This may not concern you but we felt it was a minus point.
