We left our 2.9m Excel Dinghy with Suzuki 5hp outboard tied to a pontoon among another 8-9 dinghies and went for dinner in Vis. Coming back after 3 hours – no dinghy. The Police said it’s a common problem and chances to find the dinghy are very slim. What type of securities one can buy for such cases? Also, beware of Croatia. Although one of the best sailing area, dinghies theft is a big problem.

Stolen Dinghy in Isle of Vis, Croatia

I use a 5 m cable which goes through the outboard, through as many dinghy handles/ D rings as possible and then locks to the pontoon/wired stone cages/ anything I can find.
A determined thief could get it but if he has a choice of mine locked up and yours unlocked I hope he will take yours.

Thanks
Hi,
Thanks for your reply. You ebay link show only 1.5m cable which in the best case will be good to tie someone to the tender....
No doubt, this is an idea I should explore further.
