    Default dehler 31

I'm looking for any comments on a dehler 31 (VDStad design)
Any reviews, tests, personal opinons... will help.
Is there anyone who can give me a copy of the second hand test issued in the June 1998 number of YM?

    Many thanks

been looking into Dehlers as well. They seem a good cross between a cruiser and something more race.

A bit put off by the bow (anchor) roller system. Seems flimsy for the more expeditionary work.

In the late 80's I believe Dehler Yacht co crash tested one at 6 knots into a submerged concrete block on purpose and it (the boat, not the block) came off unscathed. I have owned 2 Dehlers in the past (a 25 and a 34S) and on both have no criticsms on structural integrity of either. Friends with 31s say they are fast, fun to sail though with a tendancy to round up if overpressed and keep their value well. Check with Alan Bourden of Borden Brokerage in Poole. He knows more about the earlier Dehlers than anyone

I'd sooner be out on the water.

have to confess to bias as current proud owners of a dehler 34 but we have found it to be better built than any of our previous 5 yachts, sails beautifullly and looks great, if the build quality of the 31 is comparable to the 34 and if it sails well we would recommend it without hesitation, great boats

Purchased mine this Easter and have been very pleased. 2000 miles logged so far.
For my sailing which is mostly single handed its great having the large main and small jib . but its a bit overcanvassed when it really blows.
If you want any info I can scan and email the reports etc .send me a pm

Thank you for your fast reply.
I'd be delighted with all kind of reports. I appreciate the effort because I'm negotiating with a ship chandler to buy a 31 (build in 93) in the Netherlands. So, any info will help me.
You can send your scans to my home e-mail adress: kris.thielemans@skynet.be

Thank you very much and maybe we 'll meet on the Northsea some day...

    Hi
Have a Dehler 37 which is a fast cruiser. Went on the Cherbourg trip last weekend and she went well - usually cross the channel x2 or 3 a yeaar comfortably. The Dehler dealers went out of business recently but if you can track Dave Dunn down he will have lots of info. Good luck

Sailed the 31 and own a 34. Great boats that sail well. The 34 holds her canvas better and Novas command better price. The VDS boats look prettier and always draw attention when coming into port. There are two 34's for sail at the moment for the same price as the ones in Holland, one through the new Dehler brokers at Hamble Point and another through Ancasta Hamble. There is not much difference in interior space but more sailing difference when the wind pipes up. Best of luck and contact me if you need further info simon_jinks@ipcmedia.com . Unfortunately i'll be selling mine this spring to look for a caravan boat instead! Ah well.

    Simon,

I have seen your response on YM's scuttlebutt ref the Dehler 31.

Do you have any experience of the dehler 38. I am considering the purchase of such and have not been able to find any reports.
