You say it all worked for a while - then went off.
Doesn't sound to me like a positioning problem.
It sounds to me like the contractor has streatched the cables and you have a loose electrical connection on the fluxgate itself.

Exactly, Hurricane and djefabs. Just looking around my (London city overlooking St Pauls) office I see I have 100m of cable, two lumps of nice teak 50x180mm section, several small s/s fabrications, a Sykes Pickavant hydraulic puller for props and stabs and a spare Raymarine Gyro compass PCB card, just for starters. Far more interesting than all the spreadsheety powerpoint stuff that everyone else here seems to have in their offices. I also have a pair of girls jeans that I found on the boat at the end of summer, COH Brand (Citizens of Humanity, a Los Angeles brand), that I've been trying to find an owner for. I've asked all the girls in the office who have been on the boat but can't find an owner for them. Anyone on here been on Match and lost a pair of COH jeans?
