For your assistance / advise on my network problem. I have got there after much swearing and nashing of teath, now fully networked again.
I re installed original net adapter, re installed pccillin this time disabling firewall, re set computer ID number to auto and did so many other things I cant even remember but it worked eventually.

Thanks again chaps you all helped me down different roads and enabled a something like methodical diagnosis.
