Can anyone explain why the insurance payout for the Hythe Pier might have a ceiling of £175,000 when the estimated cost is £300,000?

No. It would appear that the insurance companies worldwide have agreed a maximum payout to keep down insurance costs but I have never heard anything about this. Also if this is the case it could be the end of the pier and the ferry.

Do you mean that they should moor it parallel to the shore in future?

Re: Hythe pier insurance claim
Well as they now have 2 piers they should claim £150,000 for each. Problem solved!

Re: Hythe pier insurance claim
A dredger rammed it about a month ago and knocked a 50' hole in it.
