That's what I have and it does the job. If you are planning on buying a new VHF and an AIS receiver at the same time it makes sense, because...
1) Cost of VHF with AIS is about the same as non-AIS VHF, AIS receiver and VHF aerial
2) No new power connection required if you are running short of switches on your switchpanel
3) No new aerial required - less wires to install and holes to drill
4) Has a small built in display showing what's where independant of any external plotter. It's good enough if there's just 1 or 2 targets around.
