Default Recommendations for surveyor in Solent area

Friend is buying a 31' boat ashore in the Southampton area and is looking for surveyor recommendations. Any recommendations based on personal experience?

    Default personal recommendation for surveyor

Just had a survey carried out by Matt West www.marinesurveysuk.com.
Very impressed. He encouraged me to go round with him so he could explain
what he was doing; looking for and what I should look for when buying
my next boat. He found things which the surveyor had missed when I bought
this boat including out of date gas pipes and kinked baby stay attachments.
I have no worroies about the material used in my stop cocks 'cos he very
thoroughly checked every one and they are all bronze.
Cost 295 for an LM 30.

Hugo Morgan-Harris of http://saundersmorganharris.com/da/18583 did the survey on my boat a few years back. Although it's a mobo, he mainly does yots. He was extremely thorough and produced a clear report for me. He also allowed me to follow him around while he was doing it, which must have been a bit of a trial.

Although I have no experience of Duncan Saunders, who is the other half of the business, I've heard several people on here say similar positive things about him.

They're based at Mercury, iirc, so anywhere in the Solent would be easily do-able.

Plus 1 for SMH, - they surveyed my Merlin last year and were very good...

Another vote for Hugo. He's done two surveys for me.
