I thought schillings were staggeringly expensive libel lawyers?

    Aaahhh - the 90s........

You weren't 'Monty the Mountie' or 'Von Thadden' by any chance ?

The old forum was a lot of fun, not forgetting 'Trouville' of course.....

    Anyone else 'sadly missed' ?????

No idea (please see top right of post).

IIRC, it was to ask a question on PC Planner software. Didn't participate really until stormbound in Kyleakin in July 2010 along with Quandry and Juggler7823 and after we tanned the gin the forum beckoned to pass the time.....

August 1997, about 3 months after it started. I transferred from Usenet sailing newsgroups such as uk.rec.sailing and rec.boats.cruising along with a number of other early forumites (are those who claim to have been here earlier possibly confusing this forum with those groups?).

Prior to the release of Netscape Navigator, HTTP and HTML protocols in 1995, an internet forum in a format like this one would not have been practical.

The original version quickly became very prone to overloading and crashed heavily at the beginning of 2001 when a disgruntled user "Worm" mounted a simple Denial-of-service attack. But there were other problems with it.

Incidentally, a little while back I checked back through old copies of YM to the very first reference to a website, which was (from memory) an advert by Ancasta in August, 1995. In those days websites had to be accessed by IP address rather than by name.

    .
Andrew, I recall your name from very early days but have some doubts about your date. I moved to Holland in July 1996 and was using this forum before I left. I well remember attending my first training course in Internet use and immediately put company time to better use in contributing to the forums. I cannot be sure of the date but it was certainly while I was in UK.
