    Default SAR

Last Saturday evening on the Medway there was a search led by a Sea King and the RNLI in a rib, obviously those that were able also helped, turned out that someone thought he may have seen somebody in the water. The report was at about 5.00pm and they were still looking at 9.00pm.It was really good to see the professionalism of these people, but it makes you wonder if people realise the scale of a the search that goes on when they report something! Its good to know these guys are there though.

I dont think we should start people getting a hang-up about alerting the emergency service because it might be costing too much. I am certain that they would much rather be called out for each of these possibilities. What does upset the emergency services, is the real hoax calls, and it is these that need to be discouraged actively.

Hi Mark.sorry I probably did'nt explain what I meant very well, that if people knew how many different services were involved, and some were charities there may be better funding.

This is particularly true of the inshore lifeboat teams that supplement RNLI. People see them deployed and some immediately respond with - great , we had better send some money to RNLI . A good idea in its own right of course, but there is a danger that these smaller organisations get overlooked.
