Neil, for draft in the water...

bit anoraky but you could drape a heavier-than-water rope under the keel, with a knot tied at the waterline on port side and then note and mark ( say with a series of knots then a marker) the waterline on starboard.
Then measure the beam at that point and er its trigonometry innit
Why argue with a nautical wall? I just read the graffiti these days.

I've recently bought a Scanmar 33 - any other current owners here?

In the process of buying one. If all goes to plan should be the proud owner by next week. If anyone has any information I would love to hear it. I found history on sailboatdata but not much else.

No personal experience, but from a brief googling it appears that there were some problems with insufficient internal support for the keel on the first couple of years of the production run (1980 - 81 I think). This was improved on boats built the following years.
Worth checking out on the boat you are considering.

Yes I did read this, also there were some issues with the chainplates on early models but this one is towards the end of the production run and I believe these issues had been sorted out by then.
It’s over 30 years old and still here so I guess it should be ok. We have had a thorough survey which has come back with only minor issues.
The boat is called Escapade of Deben if anyone knows any history of her I would like to know. The current soon to be X owner has had since 2013 I believe but I just wondered where she was before that.
    Just idle curiosity really.
