    Default coding of a boat

hi, i am at the very early stages of buying a boat with the view to carrying out trips around a non tidal bay for 12 people, the MCA website is a bit confusing as to requirments for the boat.

The boat i have in mind is a 35ft open boat with a wheelhouse at one end and lots of room for seats in the midships area and an enclosed watertight bow.

a web search has come up with a few figures of between four and 10 grand to get it coded, can this be right?

any advice will be very well recieved.

Quick update..after trawling through the MCA website and getting more confused by the second, i paid the local MCA office a visit and spoke to a very nice surveyor, she was very helpful and put me on the right track.
