Upholsterers on South Coast...

I am planning to replace the cushions and covers on Skybird this winter. Any recommendations on upholsterers? I am currently awaiting quotations from Hawke House Marine, Toomer & Hayter and Comfort Afloat having visited them all at SIBS. Are there any others who I should be talking to? Any strong recommendations - good or bad?

Have spoken to a number of folks who have used Comfort Afloat and all comments have been very good indeed. I'll be using them this winter.

Ed, Boatsew made the original set. Not sure if the Naismiths (lovely people) are still in business, but I did find this.

Hawke House did a superb job of all the upholstery on my 37ft Catamaran (new build) at a good price. Comfort afloat are also good but I negotiated a better price from HH. Don't be afraid to barter if you have a fairly big job. Most will negotiate.

Last spring I used Zeebedees in Boscombe (Bournemouth) to make all new upholstery throughout the boat. Much cheaper than Toomer and Hayton and a very good job.

They did an excellent job for me (complete re-upholstering of boat) at a very good price, delivered on time.

They are based somewhere in the Portsmouth area, but get in before they become VAT registered!

You could try Helen Fryer at Marine Interiors, on 01929 424739. She's best placed for boats at Poole, but is prepared to go over to the Solent.

Oh, and she's an excellent upholsterer. But I would say that, I'm married to her!

Hawke house did a great job on my new yacht at a lower price and with good choice of materials. They advise and are flexible.
