    Default Disturbing Theft

Over the night Weds/Thurs 20th/21st July (around 0130), thieves boarded our yacht whilst we were in Rothesay inner harbour, broke the padlock on our outboard motor and stole it. They had come into the harbour by small boat, boarded the stern of the yacht and after getting the outboard they motored off out of the harbour at high speed. I was awakened, presumably by the sound of the bolt cutter cutting the lock, but they were on their way before I fully realised what was happening.

Rothesay Police would obviously be interested to know if anybody had seen unusual small boat movements on that night, or around that night, in Rothesay Bay, Port Bannatyne area or over near Toward Point.

Rothesay Harbour is a small harbour and is well lit on all sides. On the night of the incidence, there were around 20 boats in the harbour, over half of which were occupied.

It looks like most of us need to think more about our safety and security when we are aboard our yachts.

    Actual details
Yamaha 2.5hp outboard motor, unit id, 69M/1064194 and at the time it was taken it actually had a blue cover on it.

Perhaps it is better you were not quicker. Some of these scum can be quite violent & even an outboard is not always worth it.
Frustrating & lousy luck, but best just to move on & forget it - easy said, but difficult I am sure

What an odd theft. I guess they must have spotted the outboard earlier and come specially for it. It's a long way from the mainland, so perhaps from Port Bannatyne.

Make sure you give the story to the Buteman (www.buteman.co.uk) - it'll be a change from their usual crime stories, which are invariably either (a) public drunkenness or (b) missing lights on cars driven by 19 year olds on Rothesay sea front. The paper comes out on Thursday.

I wonder how the Syrian families who arrived in Rothesay during the winter are faring?

Don' think they'd appreciate the joke.

It was indeed. There was a thread in the Lounge about it.
