Default 1978 Ford 6 cyl 150 HP Turbo parts and advice

Just taken a turbo off my mates Ford Sabre 150HP. The port engine was emitting lethal levels of smoke into the cabin. It turned out that the 4 bolts (or studs) that hold the exhaust elbow onto the turbo had broken (corroded) causing the elbow to fall off! After removing the shiny chrome turbo cover I also found that the clamp that further supports this joint had also collapsed.
Apparently the turbo itself is obsolete so a service exchange may be difficult. Given this, some engineering (drilling out the old studs ets) work will be required. The turbo appears to spin ok and no obvious oil inside, so hoping to avoid a full strip.
Does anyone have any advice about parts for this turbo? I can provide turbo numbers etc tomorrow when I bring it back to base if this helps. A bit of help with this would be very much appreciated!
    Many thanks. Stu

You would be better posting this on the MOBO forum where there are experts on this old engine. Best of luck with it!

But not the turbos which have not been made for years. There is, however a possibility of modifications to use a later model turbo.

    Stu,
I'd suggest that you do not disassemble the turbo, at least not before posting more information.
Turbos typically rotate in excess of 100,000 rpm so balance of the two wheels and of the rotating subassembly is critical. Tearing them down and rebuilding usually requires a rebalance and this is a specialised activity.
I worked for a turbo manufacturer for 20 years so may be able to help with general information.

Let us know how you're progressing. Good luck.

I'm going to post pictures of the problem, along with I.D numbers tomorrow.
I really do not want to disassemble the unit but would appreciate advice when everyone can see the problem.
I contacted Lansing but they couldn't help. Alex Carr in Hull has been recommended.

Might be worth a call to

Might not have the parts you require but they are a fountain of knowledge on old Fords.

Have you spoken to any of the companies who refurbish turbos?
