Just taken a turbo off my mates Ford Sabre 150HP. The port engine was emitting lethal levels of smoke into the cabin. It turned out that the 4 bolts (or studs) that hold the exhaust elbow onto the turbo had broken (corroded) causing the elbow to fall off! After removing the shiny chrome turbo cover I also found that the clamp that further supports this joint had also collapsed.
Apparently the turbo itself is obsolete so a service exchange may be difficult. Given this, some engineering (drilling out the old studs ets) work will be required. The turbo appears to spin ok and no obvious oil inside, so hoping to avoid a full strip.
Does anyone have any advice about parts for this turbo? I can provide turbo numbers etc tomorrow when I bring it back to base if this helps. A bit of help with this would be very much appreciated!
Many thanks. Stu
