So here's an ignorant question from a non-racer who earlier this year was pondering some crazy notion about single handed ocean racing on a budget...Once the 3s are released are there any races still organised for the 2s, i.e. a sub-amateur super-budget 2nd division solitaire?

I assume you know about these guys?

I keep an eye on it as there is a guy racing in a Parker 275 like mine. So I think budget is possible! So if handicap racing is your thing anything will do!!?!

That crowd rocked up when we were last in Yarmouth, there was some serious kit to be seen

Yes im sure they all have expensive sails! However in IRC2 I think there are some boats that aren't that expensive.

They won't be organised by the Figaro guys, but there's nothing stopping the future owners of the boats going to a yacht club and requesting that something is organised.
You never know, I might be right!

Boats must be tired by now. Worked hard.

I can easily imagine a Figaro II RTW race with perhaps one stop for restocking. These boats were very well built for very tough waters.

That's what Open 40s are for. It would just be too slow in a Figaro.

And I think they were built with a balsa core, so possibly getting soft now.

See: http://goldengloberace.com/retro-sailing/ for what is possible. The Figaro II would be blistering by comparison.
