Ramsgate has a Waitrose... within easy walking of the Harbour.

A lovely and much maligned town - I had a great year 10 years ago there working in Margate and staying in Ramsgate in full view of my boat in the harbour.

In the middle eighties, there was a small restaurant in Ramsgate called "Gaslight" it only had around 8 tables as once it was full it was full. It was run by two Gay guys who did the best French cuisine anywhere in the area. It was also full of French diners awaiting ferries (word gets round easily) They would do table Flambes the lot. The tables were just scrubbed pine with a bottle and a candle in the middle. You had to book well in advance. I wonder where those two guys went.

Flavours by Kumar and La Magnolia. Unmissable. Also very fond of Churchills although the walk up Jacobs ladder to get to it is unhelpful.

I had the nastiest fish and chips I have ever encountered, in Ramsgate. It was overcooked, dripping and reeking of of stale oil, and to make it worse I could avoid seeing the great oaf sitting at the next table demolish his large helping in a minute or two by stabbing it with a fork held like a dagger. It used to be our tradition to go for F&C in Ramsgate on our return from three weeks in Frogland.
