    Default Sun dogs

Slightly boaty, because when I went down to the marina to check the boat today I saw what I think was the brightest parhelion I can remember. I have a soft spot for halos of all kinds but am no expert on them. The subject is inordinately complicated but this superb site give a lot of information and beautiful pictures. http://www.atoptics.co.uk/

I didn't make a very good job of photographing today because it was cold and my camera didn't want to focus at first. In the wide shot you can just see a bit of the opposite halo.

I can recommend Robert Greenler's "Rainbows, Halos and Glories". In particular where he does experiments with models of ice crystals to see what orientation they take up while falling...

Absolutely beautiful, on the drive home a few weeks ago I saw an amazing one over London. Couldn't stop staring!

    Natures lighting is the best!
