I have to ask myself if i was in the same position would i prefer to buy marine heating from a seller of towbars who has approximately 2 months experience of selling this brand or an experienced marine engineer with 20+ years experience of fitting heating and cooling systems to yachts and superyachts who has also been a specialist in this particular brand for two years now. I will leave you to decide and respect anyones decision.
I'm not in the market for a new heater, and have no axe to grind. A lot of these two similar threads appear to be blatant advertising. I leave it to the Mods to decide whether that is acceptable or not, but it is distinctly unfair to refer to P F Jones as "a seller of towbars". By all means, blow your own trumpet, but you won't win support by making untrue disparaging remarks about your perceived opposition.

P F Jones has been a main agent for Eberspacher heaters for many years. I have bought from them, and had excellent service, help and advice from them. Their knowledge of that type of heating systems is probably as good as any in the UK. That's not to say that there is no place for other suppliers, but if you want to win respect, you have to be fair.

I would imagine a lot of the forum members have owned their own businesses and at some point been a small start up business that at times may have struggled to keep up with demand and had to make some hard decisions about taking on staff and expanding. I know I have. When someone does have the courage to start up in business they deserve all the support that they can get as they strive to support the demands of the customers, match the market price and make enough money to support their own family and hopefully employ staff who can then support their families.

I may be missing something here but it appears to me that there seems to be some effort here to undermine the efforts of a fellow forumite who we should be supporting as much as possible.

Perhaps I might be a bit sentimental as someone who has been through that process but surely the human element should be a factor, season of goodwill etc
Plus, I've never understood the appeal of price matching. The more expensive supplier is essentially hoping the buyer doesn't notice that they are being overcharged and only become competitive when found out.

Ah well takes all sorts I suppose?

I must say that I have faith in the innate built in goodness of the forumites on here to see what is going on.

You never stop, do you Stu? Your continued attacks on me are so obvious and so futile.

Why has nobody taken issue with matthewriches' decision to buy from PF Jones? Why haven't I seen anyone criticising him?

When owen-cox started promoting his business on here, I don't recall anyone suggesting that this was unfair to David2452, who sells Webasto and Mikuni heaters, and who is a much longer-established forumite who has for many years given excellent advice freely on boat heating systems.

When FishyInverness was working at GaelForce, I don't remember anyone suggesting it would be wrong to suggest alternative suppliers which may have had keener prices than GaelForce.

Many of us are keen to avoid paying too much for equipment, and for many years I've suggested alternative sources to consider. I've often been thanked for that, so I can't see it's a heinous crime.

I hope owen-cox succeeds in his venture, but it has to be on the basis of running his business efficiently and competitively. JumbleDuck has already highlighted one element which could be improved - communications. And I've received PMs expressing similar concerns, so hopefully owen-cox will take these points on board.

Whilst I agree with you, you may find that Owen Cox doesn't - check his website!

Sorry been working and only just surfaced! Sorry, so Owen on this forum is the only dealer of these heaters or is PF Jones a dealer too? I'm confused!

Not really read much as been busy.... just need a diesel heater and assumed they were just like an Eberspacher, run of the mill, anyone sells them sort of thing?? Didn't think they were protected and only available in certain places.

Would be interested to see one working before purchase if anyone is local and I could pop over and look at it. Thinking now would be a little scared to purchase if the spares were not available or dried up in 5 years time, just as the heater was needing spares maybe??

There are 6 official dealer locations in the UK; PF Jones run 4 of them. Owen's claim to be the only UK official agent is, regrettably, untrue. I'm sure he'll be removing the claim from his website.

It is already done. It was never a false claim it was just bad information given to me by the european development manager. I was only informed of the demise of the other “agent” in London. There is no problem with availability of spares either now or in the future.

You shouldn’t be.. Ive had one in my boat all year and it’s been working perfectly. Pumps out the heat and is quieter than the Eber.

I have one fitted to our boat, currently in Ipswich Haven. It is the 44D model. Puts out plenty of heat, not too noisy compared to some I have heard. You would be welcome to see it in use sometime, but probably after Xmas, as I am a bit tied up before then.
However the heater itself is installed behind the side panel in the wheelhouse, so it would be more a question of listening to it and feeling g the output rather than "seeing" !
    PM me if interested.
