Default Wanted - old, out-of-service liferaft

I have decided to service my own liferaft but I want an old, out-of-service, sitting in the back of the garage/boat shed for ages liferaft to practice upon. I can collect from most places in the South-East and possibly also the South West. Otherwise I may be able to arrange a courier.

    Thanks.....Jonathan

Got a 6 man canister sat in my garage doing nothing because no-one wants it - even offered it to the Sea Scouts. But I live in N Wales, probably too far away for you

    Hi Mike,
Thanks very much for the offer. Would you be able to measure it and tell me its approx weight? I did once ship a liferaft by courier so I know it's possible but that was a smaller and probably less heavy one.
But if it's not easy for you to do this, never mind and thanks for your reply anyhow.

I plan to do that but am allowing for the possibility of failure to repack, which would be rather costly.

I've got a 2005 6 man valise. Seago IIRC. You can have it on one condition - when you unpack it you send me back the "accessories" (bailer, pump, signalling mirror, seasickness tablets if they are still in date etc).

    Just south of Luton.

I think Mrs Angele will be glad to see the back of it. But little does she know it is about to be replaced with a pair of old sails.

    Hi Jonathan.
Did you manage it in the end?
I too want to do my own service. I have three, in various conditions. I tried to re-pack one of them and didn't manage it, sadly, even sucking all the air out etc. I will have another go with one of the others.
I figure that, as I am not going to buy one new, it is better to have one on the boat with an 80% chance of it working than in the shed with a 0% chance of it working!
    Cheers. Andrew

    Hello,
Just to pour cold and rough water over all of your plans and to pick up on "80% chance it working" ----
It will either work or it won't, is only a 50% chance.
When you are floating in the middle of the ocean supported only by your lifejacket, with no flares, VHF, drinking water etc, watching your boat sink and wondering why your home-serviced liferaft didn't work, you'll have only a short time left to think about all the money you saved by trying to do it yourself.
