    Ditto, except I had miscalculated air height and VHF aerial was bent to about 70 degrees as we “rattled” under! Just a feeling of relief that we had not wiped out the masthead gear or worse. Could have been a very dangerous mistake.

    When the bridge is being built I expect the clearance will be less than 18metres and certainly wont open, so that will be 6 months or so to build the central section when the clearance will be a fair bit lower. What are the chances this will be in the winter?

    According to the National Oceanagraphic Centre HAT Ipswich is 4.88m. It's based on Harwich's which is 4.51m.

    I have been asked to join a focus group for the crossings. I'll report back.

    Why would they build a lifting section in situ?
