Default Thoughts on wind instruments with no moving parts

Thinking of replacing the mast head wind instrumentation - has anyone got any thoughts/recommendations on using ones with no moving parts e.g.

    Maretron-WSO100-01-Ultrasonics-Weather-Station or those in
    https://calypsoinstruments.com.

    Robustness?
    Accuracy?
    Responsiveness?

Do they have to sit in 'clear air' so have to sit exactly at the top of the mast or can they sit off set like most traditional instruments.

Do they easily link to other nmea0183 or 2000 instrument heads

Are they fit and forget or is some form of maintenance required

    thanks in advance

I've given up on wirly wind instruments. Where I live in the Western Isles they fall apart pretty quickly. Have just got a Windsonic by Gill Instruments. Seems to work fine in the garden, but not yet made it to the masthead. Note that the cheapest version doen't have a NMEA interface. Claims to be maintenance free.

Perhaps I've found the answer myself:

in summary - good when its not raining/water spray.......so maybe not for me......or perhaps I can modify it by putting an umbrella on it????

There must be a way to work out the wind speed when it's raining using a ready reckoner based on drop size (and hence terminal velocity) and the angle it is coming down at. Ultrasonic would work when it was dry.

Alternatively I know Hull Uni was doing work on measuring wind speed with lasers twenty or more years ago.
