    Have you tried swinging the compass by using a mate in a dinghy towed behind with a hand bearing compass, lining up the mast and forestay as the boat does slow circles ?

    Things can affect compasses ( and autopilots ) at different headings - but probably not as much as when dad put a big twin speaker 1980's ghetto blaster in a bracket on the other side of the bulkhead.

    yes we have referenced this compass in several ways. worst thing to effect it was a ladle hung on the wall in the cabin.
