Default Levington to Brightlingsea in one and a half Hours

As the weather was so nice yesterday myself and a friend decided to go out in his Rib from Levington to Brightlingsea, Buy lunch and then come back again.

The weather treated us very well

Here is a little video I made of our trip.

I don't wish to appear rude, but your pal with the rib demonstrates at 04.35 why speedboats are often unpopular with yachts. Why didn't he give him a wider berth? There was hardly any wind and the considerable wake from the rib would have made things uncomfortable and, more importantly, shaken the wind out of his sails and possibly causing a gybe. We all have to share the water so manners can go a long way.

Was that Mike Tyrell sculling the dinghy?

We were a massive distance away from the Yacht at 4.35 and on the open sea (I was zoomed in) This thread was not intended as a speedboat v yacht thread.

No that was not Mike Tyrell

Great video. Thanks for sharing. Usually takes us 2 days for that!

Just be mindful of the harbour authority rules which very clearly state:

    "Speed limits

The speed limit for power boats, cruisers, or yachts is 8 knots within Harwich Harbour, the River Stour and the Walton Backwaters. The limit is 6 knots within the River Orwell. Please avoid wash damage to the banks of the River Orwell."

You and your pal ( face visible at 2:46) are doing well in excess of 8 knots as you fly past that ship and the cranes on the way out.. Yes I know lots of other people do it too but uploading a video of the act.. well that's not so common and maybe not so smart..

    Go steady...

Thanks for the advice I am sure us and others will consider what you say. Please tell me does the 6 knot limit apply to sail boats under sail as well, because of course they will go over this at full sail and I see very few trying to slow down to 6 knots
