Doublehanded offshore keelboats in the Olympics

Looks interesting. I wonder how teams go about getting access to one of these boats?

The current intention seems to be that they aren't going to announce the boat that is going to be used until 6 months before the Olympics to try and stop the big teams from training too much in the chosen boat - I don't see this working though as everyone will know the shortlist of boats way before this point and it will just mean that the big nations will make sure that their teams have access to train on all of them, so it will actually put the costs up.

I wonder if something standard and generally available like a Figaro II wouldn't have been a fairer bet.

From what I gather, one team per country will make the Olympics, with a limit on the number of countries that make it to the Olympics, based on qualifying races (although at least one team per continent).

I think I agree with Stan Honey regarding use of technology as a complication. However, it will probably be impractical to enforce.
