Default Molesey, Bell Weir and Romney Locks update

Work at Molesey has been completed and the lock re-opened yesterday afternoon.
The problems at Bell Weir and Romney cannot be resolved by a quick fix so the EA have decided to carry out significant upgrades to the electronics and software systems at both sites. This is planned for later this month and should be completed by the end of March.
Unfortunately these systems are old and in some cases original manufacturers are no longer in business so the planning process has inevitably taken time. However user groups have done everything possible to encourage the action which is now in hand and should ensure much more satisfactory operation for both lock staff and boaters.
More information is available on the TMBA website at www.tmba.org.uk

A project is also in hand to ensure that pedestal instructions river wide for self service operation by boaters are clear and understandable.

Would be nice to have all the operating sequences in a standard format throughout the entire system and for some illumination of the pedestals.Placarded WITH BIG EASY TO READ TEXT
Not for me you understand, but for everybody else who cannot find their way out of paperbag are hard of understanding with rubbish eyesight and may well have dropped their glasses in the drink or have left them on a boat at the bottom of a very empty deep lock.

There's norra lot of room on the pedestals to put any form of text.
However the most difficult challenge is to get boaters to

    RTFM

that is to read the instructions in the first place......

I've seen 'experienced' boaters repeatedly pressing the sluices button while the program was running. When challenged they said something to the effect that "it makes the system go faster".

When it come to reading the instructions, several locks have had the instructions torn off wilfully.
