River Crouch - PLA Survey Works

Due to adverse weather conditions survey work as described in CHA Notice to Mariners No 4 of 2019 has been delayed and is now expected to commence on Friday 8th March.

Following a close quarter incident on the River Blackwater between the Survey Vessel ‘MAPLIN’ and a yacht we have been requested to remind mariners as follows:

During survey operations the vessel ‘MAPLIN’ will deploy subsurface towed equipment up to 200m astern which will be marked with a tail buoy.
Whilst engaged in surveying the vessel:
• Will be restricted on its ability to manoeuvre
• Will display lights and shapes in accordance with International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea [COLREGS] 1972 (as amended) Rule 27b
• Will maintain a listening watch on VHF Channels 16 and 11

All vessels are to proceed with caution whilst navigating in the vicinity of the Survey Vessel, pass at a safe distance and not impede her progress in any manner.

Your full co-operation in this matter will be appreciated.

Harbour Master
