Default Looking to join someone crossing the English Channel

I'm a novice yachter and looking to gain more practical experience. I'd really like to cross the English Channel in a small yacht for the experience and as I've never done it before I'd prefer to join someone who is experienced in the journey for my first run.

If anyone is a frequent sailor across the Channel and wouldn't mind me joining them on the trip then I'd be very interested in getting in touch. I'd be more than happy to pay my way for my share of the trip, and I'd bring my passport and minimal/no luggage to be clear that there's no fear of any smuggling attempts.

Please get in touch with me or point me towards any 'yacht-pooling' type venues.

    Thanks

you might want to add where you are based - Cornwall? Kent? somewhere in between? I am sure any prospective skipper will want to meet on shore first.

I'm happy to meet anywhere and can travel. My on shore travel abilities are not a problem. I'm just looking to get more first hand experience at sea

    Hi Rising Sun,

    welcome to the forums.

I have crossed the Channel a fair few times, if I'm not available ( lots of illness in family, me a fair bit, mum terminal so on yellow alert all the time ) I know a fair few others in my club who may be able to help you out - sending PM.

Keep an eye on the Last Minute Crew Wanted Solent faceache group. I got an x-channel on there last year.

Some people prefer to try out new crew on a local jaunt first.
It's worth being available for anything that might lead up to what you want.

Experience makes boaties cautious. A little more about you might help.

Age, experience, any qualifications, special skills, what boat you have sailed and so on.

Can you stand a night watch? That sort of stuff.

As I am Devon based a crossing is about 100 NM or 20 hours, a tad different if you are in Kent and a 20 NM or four hours.
