    Default New Sail Advice

    Hi All,
So,if you had a new mainsail made and it turned out to be short in the luff would you be happy
if the sailmaker offered to extend it?
Good quality Vectran ,Loft with good reputation.

If the sailmaker came to measure my boat before making the sail, then I wouldn't be happy if he/she just extended the luff.

Different scenario if he made the sail to my measurements.

A reputable sailmaker will always measure the boat before making a new sail.

If they are adding a slice across the middle, then yes, not a problem.

    Yes,Sail maker did the measuring.
How is it better with a slice across the middle rather than I guess changing the lower panel ?

    Assuming it’s a cross cut sail .
If it’s above the reefs ,the batten spacing will alter .
If it’s around the tack seam ,the only difference would be the tack area ,which can be repatched .
A really economical alternative would be to grow the top panel and re patch but the continuous tapes around edges would be short of the head .

    Thanks for replies.
I guess i'm asking whether i should accept an alteration to the sail or not.
Don't want to end up with a doctored sail.
The shame is its a nice sail otherwise.
