    Default Literature for Ireland

We are planning a return to north and west Ireland from Oban this summer. From previous visits, we have 10-15 year old copies of the S & W and N & E sailing directions from Irish Cruising Club. Will these, with up-to-date charts, give reasonable guidance for the trip?

I remember not much liking the style of the ICC directions, though the information was good. Is there an alternative that I might prefer? Or should I stop being so fussy?

I think that a current edition of the ICC directions for the area you expect to sail in would be worthwhile.

Recent ICC books are pretty good. However there are more of the yellow visitor moorings scattered about than mentioned in the books. And one or two pontoons here & there. Some of the marina style developments are still rather unfinished, but you can usually find somewhere to anchor (perhaps not swell free!)
We did an anticlockwise circuit of Ireland last year and enjoyed it a lot. The east coast south of the Mourne mts is pretty boring, the south coast pleasant and much of the west / north west rather like home (Scotland). Weather included. The Irish folk themselves we found among the most helpful and friendly anywhere

If you plan to visit the centre of Derry or Belfast perhaps, otherwise not much has changed. For the cities mentioned you should be able to get details of berthing arrangements from the harbour authority.

    is pretty good.
Avoid Ardglass; the marina is friendly enough - the village not so much

Slightly surprised by the comment about Ardglass. Our experience was different; everyone we spoke to was friendly and we enjoyed the Asian restaurant by the harbour.

Our only difficulty was trying to find someone to take the overnight berthing fee. We'd happily go back.
