    Default Portuguese Man o War

There are warnings in the press that these nasty beasties are invading the whole coast Their tentacles have a spread up 30m and are very dangerous and even on the beach they should not be touched.

I should think so. You certainly wouldn't want one in your morning coffee.

When people go to the trouble of putting helpful hints in their profiles, please don't discourage them.

Some years ago we ran into a swarm of many thousands out in mid Atlantic. "Looks like a party ship has been this way, tossing purple johnnies overboard", said SWMBO.

I scooped one up and put it in a bucket to inspect, then threw it back. It was nearly a month later that I took the same bucket out of the locker, and got a nasty sting off a long-dead tentacle.
