    Default 1GM10 engine oil

YANMAR 1GM 1O mentions API CD oil as the type to use, but I am unable purchase it here in Barbados an I purchased some Castrol CRD plus SAE 15W-40 with an API C1-4 ,would very much like to hear if this oil shoul be ok.Thanks Bajo.

It is more than 50 years since API CD officially became obsolete, yet until recently this oil was still specified for new engines. It does seem to me that API CI-4 should be an excellent substitute, having low TBN and benefiting from modern additive package. The reduction in sulfur in fuels has been beneficial in creating a useful lubricant for small, cool-running engines.
