My old Contest compass was not easy to read, too long in the sun! So I splashed out on a new Ritchie SR-2 compass. The deck boss an I were very happy. It was physically a swap, no drilling filing etc, and it provided bigger numbers and easy to read. Except that is at night. It has a nice blue LED illuminating the top card, the bit I can only see if I stand. No light on the front, the part i use. Is this normal?

The chandler is happy to take it back, and we looked at the other compasses he had. None obviously had a front light only top. The Contest had two obvious lights.

Any recommendations for a bulkhead compass that is a direct swap for the Contest has big easy to see numbers and good night illumination.
