Cool Lymington - SPEED AWARENESS SIGN

Like those on the roads, sort of.

Notice is hereby given that from Saturday 15th June 2019, Lymington Harbour Commissioners will be trialling an experimental speed awareness sign which will be located on the Western Breakwater at the turn between Short Reach and Horn Reach adjacent to No. 11 Navigation Post.

This sign is designed to light up/flash (as pictured) if vessels breach the local speed limit inbound entering the vicinity of Short Reach.
    Will anybody take any notice?

Anyone remember the Jasper Carrot jokes about the Reliant Robin?

The limit there is 4 knots!

YM did an April fools article about speed humps for the Hamble...

My last boat would have been delighted with 4 knots on some days...

I've never known a speeding problem at Lymington Hamble and Poole, yes.

Strikes me some councils are struggling to find ways to waste money.

That's what Chichester Harbour did years ago, generally it seems to work well.

Or they could have a floating shop like the old much missed Poole barge and sell sniper rifles by the harbour entrance

I don't think Lymington Harbour Commissioners have any connection with the council whatever.

Reply to the notice and say it would be much better if the sign displayed your speed, rather than just saying you are going too fast.

Then you could use it to calibrate your log. (like I know from the roadside ones I am doing 30 when my speedo says 34)

Well they're both good at collecting money, I'm still hurting after the parking ticket my ex' collected at the quay in my car 30 years ago, hard to think there isn't a connection or at least common intention
