By the time the Upper teams had got to Mapledurham and the floating booze tent had departed it was a sad sight, four rowing boats and no followers IIRC.
I noticed that Young Mr. Coburn had cleared his impedimenta out of the way, leaving a smart tent, chairs and w.h.y. - and wonder if it was for the remainder of the procession?

Like so many Thames 'events' is seemed to be but a shadow of its former self.
    Shame.

    Shame.

    Busier times.
You could not move for boats and onlookers when this was taken a few years ago, not sure when.
    Possibly Harlyford ?
Do not recall any "Refreshment Tent "

I can assure you there were crowds along the route right up until 5pm on the Friday. There are not so many catches further up the river and the opportunities for the public to watch are limited when away from roads and other easy vantage points.
The press boat does leave the fleet after Wednesday along with some of the corporate sponsors which makes for a smaller fleet but in many ways purer spectacle.
It was raining when we got to Abingdon and there was still a reasonable crowd cheering on the bridge.
