    Hello Michael,

I would totally endorse Piers' views about Victoria Marina, especially if any significant easterly winds are expected. We were in there a few years ago in an easterly gale which resulted in a cleat parting company with the pontoon and damaging our topsides. On subsequent visits we were able to secure a place in the Elizabeth Marina which has a slightly more sheltered entrance although still exposed to the north east. I would be very much inclined to move to St Helier as it provides much better protection. We have ridden out a few gales there with acceptable surge even when the wind has been in the south.

    All the best,

    Richard.

Thanks to all - and hello again to Richard! - I am currently exploring all options including an unexpected one, and will (as always) report back.

If at all poss, move to St Helier marina. If you can't, the person who looks after Play d'eau could look after yours as well. Send me a PM and I'll give the details.

Hoping to know by the end of today what our plan is going to be.
Weather forecast for the last 48 hours strikes me as having been on the pessimistic side - but all we can see is the Little Russell channel and the waters across to Sark.

Good solution......’drystack’ the Nordhavn! Tuesday would of been ok for a trip to jersey but been blowing since with no sign of abating until next week now😂

I would not entrust anyone in SPP Victoria marina with my boat. I’ve had my 2 worst boating experiences there, both involving staff at the marina.

Final decision was to lift the boat at St. Sampsons. I mentioned unexpected events, one of these was that we got hit by a catamaran while we were moored on the waiting pontoon for Victoria marina. This damaged our swim platform and our insurers have agreed the lift-out for inspection and quote by Marine & General. So that's where the boat is now and we have flown home. Looking forward to being back in the Channel Islands ASAP.

Sorry to hear about the accident, Michael but overall that sounds like a good result. Both you and the boat should be safe for the next few days and it seems we may get some better weather by around mid next week. Certainly need it in west Scotland where the season's weather has been abysmal - cold, wet but not generally windy. Think we will be heading south next year.

    All the best,

    Richard.
