It’s Bridget Island. But you can’t get through the Straits of Magellan any more.

If you're going from one end of the mere to the other nothing matters other than getting over the Wade. Whilst I've been across with my Cornish Crabber a couple of times, and in my Smacks Boat loads, and never have the keels fully up, I've wussed out of taking Storm over as she draws 3' 3" but a fixed keel.

As a matter of interest, the charts call it "Honey Island", but the locals & the W&FYC always refer to "Honeypot Island". Not sure why.
When you say the Wade, are you referring to the causeway? The whole area is usually referred to as the Wade.

My mistake, I've always thought of the wade as the bit they walk/drive over.

Very understandable so did I until the locals pointed out my error.

If suspect that if you wander off the causeway, you'll soon discover why it's called the Wade!

For the sake of good order, it definitely is not sandy.

The mud is dangerous so understand there is a local mud rescue team. Hopefully they would get to you in time as it would be a horrible way to die.

The mud rescue team use snow shoe like devices to transit the mud.

Splatchers? My long-deceased Grandfather used to wear them to walk on the mud at Maldon picking up winkles - that was a hard way to earn a meagre living.

HM Coastguard teams specialising in mud rescue these days (I was a member of one such team) use plastic-moulded strap-on 'boots' called 'Mudders'. They are very effective, light, and actually quite easy to use.
