Default Retro fitting a connector to heater ducting?

My 60mm Webasto was crushed in a small area half way along a long section.

I've cut it, reformed it to shape and attempted to reconnect with a ducting connector, but I'm unable to slide the ends over it (I've checked and the connector is the right size).

I guess I could make a couple of 15mm cuts into the pipe ends to allow help them to wrap over, but thought I'd ask first; is there is a trick to sliding ducting over fittings?

It's in a really awkward spot for access which doesn't help.

Using a hose pick from the handy set we keep on board (which has many uses) did the trick for me when facing the same problem. Just slide it all around as you push the ducting on the connector. This was using the 90° large one from the set.
