It's getting to be like the floating bridge at Cowes - only works sometimes.

It was very impressive looking at it operate - happened to be in the RNLI restaurant when it opened and happily watched it while supping a pint.

I wouldn't be happy if I had a berth - or shares - in Cobbs Quay - maybe someone there upset a councillor...

It has to left in the 'up' position to allow free flowing of marine traffic, until repaired.

So I imagine they are delighted

Not sure whats failed now but am told its the Hamworthy side.
This side has been running on just one ram for the last couple of months so suspects its playing up with the additional load put on it.
It played up at the weekend as well trapping boats in the basin, This bridge is a total joke and known locally as "the twin fails"

The MVS will be upset about it, they wont be able to shout at anyone anymore.....

I assume you’re talking about Cowes, but the Sandbanks ferry is also off station until October at least.

    Pete,

yes I saw that on South Today news - now that Sandbanks ferry failure requires a much more serious detour around than the Cowes ferry, on busy roads - call me naive but I'd have thought it worthwhile for the local Chamber Of Commerce to step in with the dosh necessary to speed up repairs or just plain fund the thing if the present company aren't up to it as seems implied.

Meanwhile I might set up business with my Seago 230 and Mariner 2hp...

    Exactly.
I heard that the ferry went into a yard for repair and they made a pigs ear of it, so it has been sent to Southampton
BBC - chain ferry in Dorset will be out of service until the autumn after its drive shaft broke.

The ferry was usually serviced in Southampton. Last year, it went to Falmouth (as the Southampton facility had closed/could not do it anymore) and there have been a number of problems since. Now it is back in Southampton for two new drive shafts (one to replace broken one, one to replace the other). I read that they need to get a tool from Sweden to undo a coupling. Then they have to make the drive shafts....
