Default Pitting on an iron keel

My longbow keel looks a bit pitted, is this an issue? Do I take an angle grinder to it before antifouling?

I get that on my boat that Ive had for 20 years. First half a dozen lifts, worked like mad to rub it, fill it and generally mess about with it.

Last ten or so lifts, just scrubbed, let dry, wacked on a loada rust cure in whatever tin the local chandlers got, in whatever language (!) then undercoat and AF.

No doubt someone will be along to tell me Im doing it all wrong but yeah, whatever...... I live on my boat!

That's what I did with my Jouster keel. It's not going to rust through.

Wire brush attachment on angle grinder. Rust preventer like Kurust, prime and antifoul. It's only a few dimples. It's good enough for golf balls can't be that bad on a keel.

Drifting very slightly, we spent a year up in Estepona alongside a steel yacht. On first lift after, I had a very noticable patch of keel erosion on the same side the minger was moored. Something to be aware of on the galvanic scale!

Angle grinder is better than powered wire brushing. Grey cast iron is rather porous and rust is easily driven into it by brushing. Needle gunning also not good for CI but great for steel.

I used one of these on an angle grinder:

    And it worked very well.
