Absolutely packed, according to locals who want a quiet day.

Is that true? I've got a 60 mile journey to boat to do first before I even get to boat and then another 2 1/2 hrs sail to get to Chichester. If it's that packed I may not bother coming.

There's quite a few webcams around Chichester. I have not the slightest understanding of the geography but aren't they any help?

If East head is full you could always go down the Thorney channel and dry out on the beach at Pilsey Island. You want the sandy bit at the northern end of the beach.

Not really, the Witterings are no in the actual in the Harbour, and Goodwood is 5 miles inland! There is https://www.tisc.org.uk/page/webcam-1 at Thorney island sailing club up the Thorney Channel, which gives an idea of harbour conditions, but doesnt show East head or any of the other anchorages. Anybody know any other harbour webcams? Im pretty sure there isnt one of East head.

But as Alahol points out, East Head is not the only anchorage in the harbour, and IMHO its one of the worst, even if its not packed out. Just a little way up is a much better anchorage under Pilsey, and on up the Thorney Channel. Plenty of water even at LW reasonable holding, and MUCH quieter in a blow. Another good anchorage is on up the harbour just below the Itchenor reach moorings. If you want to be adventurous, go on up the Itchenor reach until you are above the moorings, in the pool outside Birdham and Chichester yachts basin. Keep over to the west, everything dries east of the marker piles. Quite night there is pretty well guaranteed in any weather, and you can pull ashore to the Chichester yacht club up the channel to CYB. Keep clear of the main channel as there is quite a bit of traffic going up to the Marinas.

Bit late now, but if you're travelling, then a quieter spot would be the sand bank just inside the mouth of Langstone harbour... I'm assuming the drying out is to scrub off, but if it isn't then you'll be disappointed at the lack of ice cream boat..
    Never knowingly undersailed...

Eventually went into Chi harbour on Saturday afternoon and anchored off Cobnor with a friend. Then Sunday morning moved to visitors buoy up at Itchenor with said friends and we drafted off one of the visitors buoys. No drying out but did cool down with a swim!!
